Sometimes it’s about something other than the current project but about prospective projects that excite creators and consumers. Fool’s Theory, the main studio force behind the upcoming remake of The Witcher, has revealed that another game called The Thaumaturge is in development. At a glance, there are a lot of similarities between the two titles, but the latter has a different structure. It’s a new IP that could work well as a standalone title, especially seeing how popular its trailer and gameplay footage has already become.

The Thaumaturge Announced By Fool’s Theory

Fool’s Theory has had an interesting career since it first appeared on the gaming scene. Lately, it’s becoming known for developing high-quality remakes. However, in addition to currently working on The Witcher remake, they have original ideas, too. That’s where The Thaumaturge comes in.

According to Eurogamer, the game was formerly known as ‘Project Vitriol’ and will be published by 11 Bit Studios. The studio’s catalog includes successful titles like Frostpunk and This War of Mine, which gives fans high hopes for The Thaumaturge. Though there is a lot of hype surrounding the game, it’s currently only been confirmed for a PC release. There is no definitive release date set just yet.

With a title like The Thaumaturge, players will be in for a dark experience. It’s presented as an open-world RPG with an isometric perspective. It is set in early 20th-century Poland. Players will need to make many “morally ambiguous” decisions in order to progress and survive. Fool’s Theory have mentioned heavy themes involving deal with “inner demons” as well as the physical world interacting with the spiritual. It’s shaping up to be anything but a light affair. Needless to say, it’s definitely on-brand for those involved in The Witcher series.

Studios like Fool’s Theory have worked on others’ series to help establish themselves so that they can be free to pursue their own ideas. With The Thaumaturge announced and drawing a crowd, more people will start to follow Fool’s Theory much more closely.
