With an infinite number of ways to live your life in The Sims 4, the adage “the world is your oyster” applies quite well. You can truly aspire to be anything you want, from an actor to professional athlete or even a well-known musician. The choice is yours, but we think a popular musician sounds like a pretty rad lifestyle. If that’s the goal you want for your sim, you’ll need to first write a song to get noticed. Don’t know how to write a song? Well, read on to find out how!

How to Write A Song in The Sims 4

To write a song in The Sims 4, you need to reach music skill level eight on any instrument. Once you reach level eight, you’ll have the option to “write a song” after selecting your instrument. Doing so will give you options for the genre of music you want to compose. After you select the genre, your sim will begin writing a song. Keep in mind that it takes quite a long time before they will finish. So, you most likely won’t have the time or patience to write an entire composition in one go.

The good news is that you can pick up where you left off in the songwriting process. When you write a song for the first time, depending on the type of instrument you’re using, sheet music or a digital music file will appear in their inventory. Simply click on the music sheet or digital music file and select “resume” to finish the last song you were working on. Once you’ve finished the piece, you can give it a name and you’ll officially be a songwriter.

However, you’re not a published songwriter just yet. If you want to publish a song you wrote, you must first reach level nine for the instrument. Once you’ve reached level nine, you can click on your mailbox and will now have the option to “license a song.” It will ask you to first select the instrument (if you have more than one above level 9) and then simply select the music you named that you want to license.

It’s important to note that you can only license one song per instrument, per week. In any case, licensing a song ensures that you receive royalties, which is a great way to supplement your income.
