If you’ve ever played Stardew Valley in the past, you’d know that it’s all about efficiency. Being able to do more on your farm or in dungeons is incredibly important while you make friends and complete quests. As you progress through the game, you’ll continuously swap between multiple items and weapons, which brings us to the legendary Golden Scythe.

Patch 1.4 for Stardew Valley introduced the Golden Scythe along with a wide variety of new resources to dig into. The very name itself raises eyebrows since players are already accustomed to using their regular scythe for cutting grass. However, this scythe is not easily obtainable. The Valley is filled with many treasures, and this particular one is quite noteworthy due to its benefits. Let’s gather some supplies and go on a little adventure.

How to Get a Golden Scythe

In order to get the Golden Scythe in Stardew Valley, you must interact with the Grim Reaper statue within the Quarry Mine, a locked area. You can access the Quarry by completing one of two unique tasks, where you can then access the underground section for exploration, peril, and discovery of the Golden Scythe.

In fact, the Quarry is littered with rarer items that players might not casually stumble upon. In addition to some tasty resources, there are combative opportunities to take upon before the statue can be interacted with — unless you’re more of the grab-n-go sort of adventurer. Paying a visit is highly recommended if you’re looking for some upgrades.

How to Unlock the Quarry

However, before you can do any of this, you have to unlock the Quarry. There are two ways that you can go about this as we mentioned before. Both routes entirely depend on what path you’re taking in your Stardew Valley narrative.

Through Community Center Bundles

If you’re close with the folks and you fight for the people, you can unlock the Quarry by finishing the Crafts Room in the Community Center. This will rebuild the bridge that heads over to the area in question, in the upper right section of town. Completing the Crafts Room will probably take you at least a full year in the game to accomplish. It’s packed with the seasonal Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter Foraging Bundles, coupled with the Construction Bundle and the Exotic Foraging Bundle.

Through Joja Community Development Form

But, if you sold out to Jojomart, you can still purchase the Bridge repair for 25,000 gold. It’s under the Joja Community Development Form, the alternative to the aforementioned Valley community bundles. The choice is entirely up to you in the end, depending on where you stand in the Valley.

Where to Find the Golden Scythe

By gaining access to the Quarry, enter through the small passageway located at the left edge of the area. Inside will be a ladder that leads you into the Quarry Mine itself, where the item in question sits.

It’s a single-layer level that’s different from the actual Mines in town. Inside the Quarry Mine, players will come across a plentiful of nodes to crack apart. When it comes to trouble, you’ll want to anticipate some swings between you and Copper Slimes, Iron Slimes, and Haunted Skulls. The tool that we’re looking for is located at the very end of the underground Quarry Mine.

Expert Tip

The Quarry Mine withholds many special items that players can collect, but the area also resets itself at the end of the day. Be sure to visit the Quarry Mine another time for additional mining opportunities.

Taking the weapon from the Grim Reaper does not seem to cause any problems. Any further interaction with the statue will result in you being teleported back to the mine’s entrance.

The Golden Scythe is a unique tool that you use for all of the reasons you use one. However, it is a strict upgrade of the original scythe in every way: you have a larger swing radius, a higher chance to cut grass to make hay, and it deals more damage pain onto your foes with a 13-damage range to work with.

However, it’s important that you do not lose this item! Once it’s misplaced, it’s gone, unless you have mods installed or are eager to start a new story in the Valley. Obviously not much of an endgame weapon, but you could always do worse! Consider it to be the ultimate upgrade for your scythe as you tend to your farming duties.
