The Hoarfrost Stomp, a favourite of Elden Ring streamers, is frequently repeated during their runs, and for good reason. It’s a wickedly effective skill that has proven successful in knocking down most of the game’s extremely effective foes in a relatively short amount of time. In this guide, we’ll show you where to look for it.

The Ash of War for the Hoarfrost Stomp skill may be found in a pond southeast of Caria Manor. On this pond, there’s a Teardrop Scarab that’s hard to spot. When you attack the glowing footsteps it produces, it will drop this Ash of War.

You can also find the Hoarfrost Stomp as the Icerind Hatchet’s default ability. This may be found in the Temple Quarter, a tiny cluster of islands southwest of Raya Lucaria Academy. It is preferable to just find the Ash of War itself, as it is certain to any melee weapon.

There’s a reason why this skill is so tightly utilised. It inflicts a colossal amount of space frost damage and will be spammed quite quickly. So much so, in fact, that FromSoftware discovered a way to successfully weaken this ability as of the 1.03 patch. While the cast time is nearly same, the unfolding of the ice spikes is somewhat slower.

Furthermore, the term “decreased damage” does not accurately represent the amount to which builders reduce the energy of this talent. It now only does about half of the damage it used to. The skill now also uses approximately three times the amount of stamina. Regardless of the changes, that is a valuable skill to have in your arsenal.
