Description

Dead Cells is a roguelike action platformer computer game enlivened by Metroidvania-style games, created and published by Motion Twin. Following about a year in early access, Dead Cells was released for Linux, macOS, Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on August 7, 2018. A Mobile port for iOS was released on August 28, 2019 and an Android port was released on June 3, 2020.

In the game, the player takes the job of an ooze like creature that takes control of a carcass in a cell, through which they should battle their way out. The player gains various weapons, treasure and different apparatuses through exploration of the procedurally-generated levels to battle undead creatures inside it. At times, the player may gain “cells”, a kind of in-game money that can be utilized to purchase permanent upgrades or open new things for the player in the event that they reach the seller between each level. Dead Cells utilizes a permadeath framework, causing the player to lose all cells and different monetary forms or things upon each instance of death. Movement Twin was motivated by The Binding of Isaac in building up the game.

Reviews

Dead Cells fuses breakneck motion with an emphasis on risk-and-reward for an incredibly engaging action-platformer.

Dead Cells is a masterpiece. It is the marriage and apotheosis of decades of Metroidvania design and the surging popularity of difficult Roguelike games. It is exquisite in all ways. It looks phenomenal. It plays like a dream. It makes you want to keep coming back even when you fail.

10/10 Steam

Wow, just had my first victory with this game. Combat is incredibly satisfying, the music fits in with the environment, and each death encourages me to push further and change how I play.
