A main point of a remake or remaster is to introduce a newer audience to an older property, but fans can have some fun with this. Case and point, players who played the original Resident Evil 4 are messing with new ones getting in on the remake. The game has not been out long, but it’s been long enough for people to discover everything that it contains, and some are using this information to prank players into killing Leon inadvertently. Based on certain dev responses, the prank may actually end up being rewarding in the long run.

Resident Evil 4 Remake Players Kill Leon

The original Resident Evil 4 came out in 2005 to critical acclaim across various platforms and for the series as a whole. It’s no surprise that when the remake was released last Friday, it exploded in sales and activity for players trying to play it as thoroughly as possible. This means that players who played the original are able to mess with the newcomers that are just getting into the iconic game.

According to NME, the prank involves shooting the lake multiple times which summons the giant monster Del Lago to kill Leon instantly. This is an Easter Egg from the original game with experienced players claiming that shooting the lake will net Leon a secret costume. SPOILER: It doesn’t.

Resident Evil 4 is credited for being a re-introduction to the series, sort of the Resident Evil equivalent of “people who don’t like anime will like this one”. The story follows fan-favorite protagonist Leon Kennedy following his exploits in Resident Evil 2. This time around, he’s being sent to investigate a cult that has sprouted in a remote village in Spain revolving around parasitic creatures called Plagas. His mission is to find and extract the U.S. President’s daughter, Ashley Graham. However, the cult and mutated Plaga creatures are not going to make things easy.

The smash hit Resident Evil 4 returns as a remaster with much of what people liked about it in the first place, including an insta-kill Easter Egg. Since experienced players are teasing new players with a secret costume by triggering it, there’s still a lot for newcomers to learn.
